Stop 1: Karahunj
Taste the old wine and ride the longest cableway in the world when you travel to Armenia! This trip is one of the longest daily tours we have to offer, and it’s definitely worth it. The South of Armenia is both stunning and very different from the North, and it only takes about 2 hours to drive from Yerevan to Areni. The town is known for its spectacular history in wine making, bearing the name of one of the oldest grape varieties in the world. So if you are a Wine connoisseur, don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit Areni and all of its vineyards. You will also visit Carahunge: the Armenian Stonehenge, which is believed to be around 2500 years older than the famous British Stonehenge. This is one of the mysterious places in the world, which is yet to be studied
Stop 2: Tatev monastery and ropeway
Our next destination will be a pick of one of the numerous vineyards, where you will have the wine taste. Driving for 2 more hours, we will arrive at the longest airway tramway in the world (approx. 6 km), which was registered in the Guinness book of records in 2010. The Wings of Tatev will take us straight to the 9th century Tatev Monastery, which once was the educational and spiritual center of Armenia. It’s built on a high plateau in the Vorotan river gorge, and is surrounded by breathtaking mountains and dense forests. During your ride, you will enjoy a spectacular view over one of the most beautiful spots in Armenia (if not in the world). Here you will see the Harsnadzor Watchtower and Devil’s Bridge, which is a natural viaduct formed on the river.
Stop 3: Areni
The last stop will be the village of Areni, which is famous for its impressive history in winemaking and bears the name of one of the most famous grape varieties in the world. So if you are a wine lover, do not miss the opportunity to visit the Old Areni winery and taste the tart Armenian wine.
