News / Armenian churches are among the most beautiful temples in the Middle East

Two Armenian churches were included in the list of the seven most beautiful Christian churches in the Middle East according to the edition of albawaba.

The Cathedral of the Holy Christ the Rescuer - the main temple of Armenian church in Iran took the first place in the list. It is located in New Julfa of Armenian quarter in Iranian Isfahan. Also known as the Vank Cathedral, the temple was built at the beginning of the 17th century by decree of Shah Abbas I. The word "Vank" is translated from Armenian as "monastery" and became common in Isfahan.

Another name of the temple is the Cathedral of the Saints. The cathedral is famous for its unique library, which contains priceless medieval examples of art and literature. It is here that there are documents confirming the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in Turkey.

In fourth place there is the Cathedral of St. Elias Cathedral, and Gregory the Illuminator in Beirut. The church is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of the Patriarch of Cilicia of Armenia.

The cathedral is located in the center of Beirut, on Debbas Square. Construction was subsidized in 1928 by Pope Pius XI. The architecture is quite atypical for the Armenian church; it reflects a certain bias towards Rome.

Christianity in the Middle East has existed continuously since the first century. With the spread of Islam in the seventh century, Christianity was persecuted. However, despite only a small fraction of the remaining Christians in the region, they still practice their faith in the region.

Christian churches in the Middle East play an important role in the survival of faith.
