On January 30, 2019, a solemn opening ceremony of the bust of Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov, dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the death of the outstanding Russian diplomat, poet and playwright, took place in Yerevan in the Thanksgiving Park of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) State University. The author of the monument is the world-famous sculptor Grigory Pototsky, whose works are established in many countries of the world. The sculpture was received as a gift from the “Strategy” Foundation, which implements numerous humanitarian, cultural and educational projects, including those aimed at supporting and developing Russian-Armenian humanitarian cooperation and interaction.
Maecenas of the project was a well-known businessman, scientist and public figure Metso Igityan.
RAU Rector Armen Darbinyan, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the RA Sergey Kopyrkin, leadership of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, representatives of the faculty of the RAU and many others took part in the ceremony.
Installing bust A.S. Griboyedov in Yerevan, on the territory of the RAU in the prueces of representatives of the political leadership and the intellectual community of the two countries was a wonderful event confirming the historical character of fraternal relations between the peoples of Russia and Armenia.
In the framework of the event in the House of Culture of the Russian-Armenian University, the RAU Theater staged a scene from the comedy A.S. Griboyedov “Woe from Wit”, also held a round table dedicated to the great poet, playwright and diplomat, and a chamber concert of classical music, dedicated to the composer’s experiments by A.S. Griboedov.
At the end of the solemn event, Pototsky was awarded a letter of appreciation and a certificate from a member of the Union of Artists of Armenia.
