“The New York Review” magazine presented the "Armenia!" Exhibition of the Metropolitan Museum

We present you the biggest cultural event of 2018 - the "Armenia!" exhibition in New York's Metropolitan Museum. The American New York Review magazine's writer Ginny Alhadef has published an article about the “Armenia” exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, presenting Armenian culture, art, sculpture and architecture. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest art centers in the world, where you can now find a new thematic exhibition named "Armenia" (ARMENIA!). It had been opened on September 22. The exhibition features Armenian Christian art from 4th to 17th centuries, which has its unique place in the world cultural heritage.

In the center of the museum there is a khachkar of 9th century from Sevanavank monastery, and the Armenian church music is playing. According to the author, Metropolitan Museum Curator Elen Evans personally arrived in Armenia and took a half a ton cross-stone from Lori Castle (12th century) to present it at the museum’s exhibition. According to Alhadeff, the most remarkable examples of Armenian architecture presented at the exhibition are miniature sculptures of 50-150 cm in height which had been brought from the Armenian 5th century capital Vagharshapat: Echmiadzin Mother Cathedral and churches, the Matenadaran after Mesrop Mashtots and the History Museum of Armenia.

“Armenia!” Exhibition is the first of its kind presenting Armenian culture in the global context. Among the nearly 140 exponates. The presented samples are illustrated manuscripts, ancient books, khachkars, relics, closet housings, precious fabrics and jewelry, church models, miniature sculptures and church supplies, which show how the Armenian Christian culture has evolved in the Armenian communities around the globe keeping national identity.

 The "Armenia" exhibition will be open until 13 January, 2019,  in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
