The director of Matenadaran named after Mesrop Mashtots - Vahan Ter-Ghevondyan, informed that damaged manuscripts in the Near East will soon be restored Matenadaran by Armenian specialists.
In 2018, with the support of UNESCO, the specialists of Matenadaran organized a one-week course to improve the skills and knowledge of nine restoring specialists from Lebanon and Syria. Based on the program, a larger program will be implemented. This time the manuscripts damaged in recent years in Syria and Iraq and representing a valuable cultural property, will be brought to Armenia in order to be restored. They will be brought to Armenia separately in batches, will be restored and then returned back. Thus, Matenadaran is expected to become a regional center for restoring the manuscripts.
